Passion for Multihued Sky

– N K Tripathi

Evenings are one of nature’s most arresting and heart-catching gifts. The sky is ablaze with bright, radiant hues. When sun sets in the west, the vibrant colors soften into cooler, mysterious tones. It is exactly the time when my passion for the sky pulls me to my open balcony, and I stare at the western horizon. The open sky, with the western star above the horizon, gives me a divine solace from the weight of the earth. I strive never to miss these golden moments as I mumble great lines of Hariaudh:

दिवस का अवसान समीप था,

गगन था कुछ लोहित हो चला। – – –

My passion for the evening sky is resolute. I also look to the east and see the deep sky blue—the colour I love. The colour blue fosters a deep sense of philosophy.

The great early Romantic poet and lover of nature, William Wordsworth, gave immortal lines describing the beauty of the evening:

“It is a beauteous evening, calm and free,

The holy time is quiet as a Nun.”

The profound silence and the purity of the evening is like a nun. A nun dedicates her life to silent worship. Wordsworth felt that the evening is in a state of divine reverence.

There is no end to the odyssey of beauty in this world.
