Longevity
Since time immemorial human beings had a longing to live long. Alchemists of yore searched for a recipe to attain immortality. Indian concept of ‘Chirayu’ is detectable in its mythology from ancient time. Indians had been blessing their sons and disciples by uttering words ‘chiranjiwi bhav’ which means live for ever. Alas, such blessings never succeeded just as alchemists also failed in their pursuit.
Jeff Bezos, chairman of Amazon is striving hard to find a formula to attain longevity. He is serious about it and is spending a fortune on this. So far there is no breakthrough. All researches so far have shown that hunt for immortality is illusory. However, as a compromise we can think of living a long and healthy life . There is a simple way for achieving this goal. To put simply, this is possible by proper nutrition and suitable exercise. Those responsible for looking after community health can motivate people for this simple way of life which enables to achieve longevity.
This will keep scores of diseases away from people. Unfortunately, our health sector is oriented towards providing treatment of diseases rather than preventing them. Physicians are not trained to prevent diseases or encourage health. They never think of exercise and nutrition which may keep a person healthy and live long. Nobody seriously object to our lazy life style which is ruining our bodies. We eat much more, especially, low- nutrient and high calorie foods. We sleep less, and or probably under more stress. We are mostly not physically active. All of these factors play a role and probably in that order. We have to change our lifestyle to counteract these unhealthy trends. To live long eat simple nutritious foods and remain physically active. Live a stress-free, long and healthy life.
