Visit of UK Prime Minister-Forgotten Past – N K Tripathi

The visit of the UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has come as a fresh breeze in the Indian diplomacy in otherwise a barren season with jolts from the US president, Donald Trump. The Starmer mission has come with the greatest number which came ever from the UK.

But one thing curious has come to me. Within a span of 78 years, how quickly we have forgotten psychologically that before that for two centuries we were ruled by the British. They exploited our country to the hilt and committed innumerable atrocities on us. However, the joy and bonhomie surrounding this mission has obliterated that era from our general psyche.

Before this is Starmer mission, during the Raj we had many missions, notably the most despicable Simon commission and a desperate Cripps commission.

History should be confined to the history books and the historians. Now, UK for India is not our ‘Lat Sahib’ but just a friendly country like many others.
