What after ceasefire?

– N K Tripathi

Much has been said and much will be echoed for days and years to come about OP Sindoor, three-day war and informal ceasefire. Dastardly act of killing 26 innocent people on religious line, shook the conscience of the country. Following the Balakote concept and throwing off the nuclear and China bluff, India decimated nine terror facilities in Pakistan, including infamous Bahawalpur and Muridke in Pakistan’s heart, Punjab with spectacular precision. These precision strikes surprised the world about India’s capacity and determination. It also hurt the regressive and communal General Asim Munir, who saw it as an opportunity to strengthen his and his deep state’s position in Pakistan. This followed the three-day war.

India had declared to avoid war. But Pakistan ventured into our skies and opened artillery fire in Jammu and Kashmir. In following three days, India clearly established its technological and strategic superiority, which was the reflection of India’s efforts in the recent years and its growing economy. India managed to substantially destroy air bases and radar systems in Pakistan. When the stage arrived for India to launch devastating aerial attacks on defenceless Pakistan, there came the ceasefire at an unexpected juncture,. Many experts and laymen were aghast with this decision. The past history of Pakistan’s track record since 1965, no one expects Pakistan to shed its roguishness. Many wanted to see the complete extinction of Pak military machinery.

Taking advantage of the surfeit of misinformation about the war, General Munir can easily find some narrative far his rendition to Pakistan public in coming days. But realising the gravity of utter helplessness of his position militarily, he approached America for ceasefire. Indian leadership was basically in no mood of prolonging the war. Indian leadership doesn’t want to derail India’s steady path of economic development. India has already demonstrated its precision hits on the cowardly hideouts, as well as, its military superiority. The diplomatic measures, including abeyance of Indus Water Treaty, will continue.

America is in illusion that the ceasefire has come due to its diplomatic heft. For Pakistan America was only a face-saver. India was following its own independent policy and judgement. India points out to the first phone call of DGMO of Pak military. Trump, in a puerile haste, disclosed the ceasefire. India will rubbish the proposed discussion at a neutral site. Not knowing the complexities of the subcontinent, Trump ludicrously offers mediation of Kashmir.

From Pahalgam to the ceasefire, India has shown its diplomatic reach in the world. It has also demonstrated its acquisitions and assimilation of war materials with a capacity to use it seamlessly. It has asserted its right to strike after any future terror attack. India also displayed valuable Hindu Muslim amity. In spite of being fully aware of Pakistan’ future mischiefs, India has displayed its statesmanship. Modi has said that this is not the era of war.
